"Thanks to the Mundial, our film's message got even stronger": the Argentinian director Sebastian Rodriguez about the film "Road to Success"

The Argentinian director Sebastian Rodriguez spoke about his directorial debut "Road to Success" taking part in the Main Competition of the 45th Moscow International Film Festival, and how 2022 FIFA World Cup helped the film, after the national team of Argentina won the tournament.

The plot focuses on Hugo, who brings his nephew to a selection at a major soccer club in Buenos Aires, all this being part of an illegal deal that will help Hugo start a new life in the big city.

"Sport and soccer, in particular, is a very important part of Argentina's life. It plays a great role in social inclusion, many children can be taken away from the streets of poor neighborhoods and get a chance for the future. Thanks to the Mundial, the message of our film got even stronger, which sparks great viewers' interest, too", said Rodriguez.

He stressed that the picture was not a real story, but rather a generalized one. The director also tried to get into a soccer club when he was a child and "is well familiar with how things work, with the lowdown and the intrigues of the process". The shooting of the film started before the pandemic and the economic downturn in Argentina, therefore, the film's production budget was challenged. That's why the film by Rodriguez is only 73 minutes long.
