"I want to keep making films about Patagonia, its amazing nature and unique characters": the director Francisco Paparella about the film "Three Brothers"

Within the Main Competition of the 45th Moscow International Film Festival, the director Francisco Paparella presented his film "Three Brothers", the second part of his "The River" trilogy, which is set entirely in Patagonia, the director's native place.

"I grew up in a small town, and it's very important for me to convey the features of this region in my films. I want to keep making films about Patagonia, its amazing nature and unique characters. I think of them as uncut diamonds: they have a great hidden potential inside, they are very intelligent and reflective, but they lost their parents very early, so no one taught them to express their feelings. Moreover, Patagonia also plays a role in the formation of those characters: they are in a certain isolation, and the climate conditions can sometimes be dangerous. In Russia, there are probably such regions, too", noted Paparella.

The film's main characters, three hunter brothers, return home to Patagonia. Faced with various bad habits and an incurable disease, each of them displays their toxic masculinity, and the lack of communication and the cold and brutal environment lead them to a tragic and violent outcome.
